REMFing in the KAF

Postby Pete Gill on Thu May 28, 2009 9:23 pm

Hi guys,

Thought i'd better post to let you know i'm down and running around on Khandahar Airfield and having been here nearly a week without any IDF its proving quieter than Basra ever was. About 7000 guys of all nations on the base with a hell of a lot of 82nd Airborne running around here, more worrying is that the USAF seem to have been issued weapons and lug them around, but don't think they are trusted with ammo.
Can't post any photos not because of Ops Security more that the bandwidth allowance i get would be eaten by one photo :(
Kit wise have found some old Russian gear (BDRM2s and quad 12.7mm) which i'm going to investigate on Sunday morning.

Anyone wanting to send gear out (2nd hand gaming mags in particular) can send parcels of upto 2kg for free to BFPO.
My details are:-
J8208637 Sgt P Gill
SNCO JPA
J1/JSU
Op HERRICK
BPFO 772

Can Canucks send you free post too!?
That don't sound like Canada Post to me; they aren't all that generous. But it would be pretty cool.

I don't know is the quickest answer. There is a Canadian element out here running around in Pirannas so they must have a Post Office here supporting them, unsure if the system would enable you to send via them or if you would have to pay to get a package to UK, then it to be sent on. I know the US APO system isn't very flexiable when it comes to forwarding things on.

I'll try to send ya something in a bit. We'll see if I can get it there from Texas.

Maybe if you broke it down into small pieces and hid the bits in other peoples kit, they'd never notice... it worked for Radar in MASH!

Having managed to get closer yesterday, someone has already had the barrels :(
There are a lot of Kiowas buzzing around this place btw and even some Hueys!
In fact lying in bunk the other night all i could hear outside was a faint sound of one working around the perimeter.

I put forwards the suggestion that perhaps you should "thumb a ride". Buzzing around in a Kiowa Warrior is great fun, even if the pilot tries to get you to lose your lunch!
