Video of Incident from "Acceptable Loss" book

Postby Smitty14 » Sun Mar 19, 2017 5:44 pm

For those of you that have read "Acceptable Loss" by Kregg Jorgenson, I stumbled across video from a CBS news crew that was there when he was shot in the legs on patrol. I've read that book several times and remember reading of that incident so it was strange to find a video. If you've read the book it's a very brief look at a couple guys from his platoon and him as well. For those that haven't read the book I'd highly recommend it.

Thanks Smitty. I have read the book, but it was a long time ago. I will go to the video and see if it jogs my memory. Then I will probably have to read the book again.

It mentions him by last name and a couple other guys plus the unit so I double checked the book to make sure it was what I thought it was.

Smitty, somehow I got the idea it was a YouTube video you found. I just looked at your post and see that is not the case.

Originally I was going to look at the video (I thought there was a link) and then re-read the book. But I decided to do it the other way around. So I have been re-reading the book. Today I got to the part with the action that the video is based on. I thought I would come back to this page and click onthe link. No link. No video.

But, I am enjoying re-reading the book. Any book about a 1/9th Air Cavalry Blue platoon has to be good. This one really is. Jorgenson wrote several other books you can easily find on Amazon, in cluding anovel taking place in the American CIvil War.

I interrupted my post to search YouTube and found it.

The CBS newsman says it was a one way ticket out of the Vietnam war. Not so. He went on R&R after getting out of the hospital, but then back to RVN.

Thanks Smitty.

I just went back and looked at the video again and then the comments below it. SGT Jorgenson posted one himself.

I should have added to my comments about the book that it does a good job of a brief explanation of how the 1/9th Air Cavalry worked. Of course, his experiences fill out the details for some of the missions the Blues would perform.

Also, for those who have the book, the action that is the subject of the video begins on page 158.

Here is a much better, more (or maybe completely) complete version. What I posted above was only part of it.

SGT Jorgenson has a comment on this page as well.

Well that was an epic post fail on my part. :huh Thanks for the assist Tom!! :good

I've read his books on his experiences as a LRRP which were prior to joining the "Blues". They're good as well but this book is by far my favorite.

SOG and both the Scouts and the Blues of the First of the Ninth Air Cavalry are really hard to beat. They are my favorite units to read.
