NVA Armour for 10mm games

Postby alan_lockhart » Sun Jan 22, 2017 3:25 am

OK, for the US I have the ubiquitous M113 variants and intend to get some Pattons and Sheridans (the latter recently released by Pendraken).

What about for the NVA: couple of PT76 and perhaps a T55?

Did the NVA use APCs such as BTR152s or similar in the field?

According to Ambush Alley Games's Ambush Valley, they used BTR-50s and Chinese K-63s for APCs, and for tanks T-34/85s, T-54Bs, and Chinese Type 59s and 63s. (page 117)

We've been up on that hill ten times, and they still don't think we're serious.

How much armour do you want ? hehehehe?

I think the BTR50 was relatively common , but more employed as an amphibious supply tractor.
the NVA also had (tracked) BTR50 with AA guns mounted on the rear deck.

Methinks the one account I know of with the NVA using APC's late in the 'day (vs. ARVN Ranger in I CTZ) were dismounted from Chinese Type 63 APC .

I think it would be fun to have at least a troop of recce vehicles based on the amphibious PT76 and BTR50,

then start adding T55 etc , bridgelayers would be a must have too .

In the 1972 campaign, there are recorded cases of the PAVN using M24s (captured from the Cambodian army). For 1972 and 1975, the PAVN also used captured ARVN AFVs, and so there's nothing wrong with givin your PAVN force M41s, M48s, and M113s.

You could make some lovely captured tanks - festooned with communist flags to avoid blue on blue fire. (Or should that be red on red in this case)

For 15mm Vietnam Riverine models.

You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?

As a matter of fact there was an entire PAVN unit that was equipped with captured ARVN equipment during the fall of saigon.

NVA used plenty of BTR40's as well . The skytrex 1/200th range has some superb models , not sure if thats still regarded as 10mm .
